Why it's different

Why our research is different

AI can research products. Vendors can describe them. Practitioners know what happens after the sales presentation.

AI research

Breadth, structure and evidence gathering across documentation, reviews and public sources.

AI provides breadth and structure. IRD provides editorial oversight and judgment.

How the research works

Vendor information

What vendors publish about their own products, and what they tell us when they respond.

Vendors cannot buy favorable rankings, suppress unfavorable findings or pay to change our conclusions.

Practitioner intelligence

System Admin Insights

SAI is an independent professional community for the people who work with HR technology every day: administrators and practitioners who know implementations, integrations, support and real vendor relationships firsthand.

Founded by Integral Recruiting Design, SAI is independent of software vendors. Vendors are not admitted as members.

Where research draws on practitioner input, we label it as practitioner input, separate from research findings and vendor claims.

Method

How the research works

AI provides breadth and structure. IRD provides editorial oversight and judgment.

  1. AI does the initial research

    Following IRD's own research methodology.

  2. The research is structured

Sources, claims, capabilities and comparisons are assembled into structured research.

  3. IRD reviews it

We review the evidence and the editorial conclusions.

  4. Research can be revised

Published research can be revised as new information becomes available.

  5. Others can add evidence

Vendor responses and practitioner perspectives can contribute additional evidence.

Evidence

Where the evidence comes from

Each kind of evidence plays a different role. This is how to read each one.

  • AI-assisted research

Generative AI does the initial research, following IRD's own methodology. Every comparison states that it was compiled using generative AI.

How to read it: Structured research that IRD has reviewed, not a final verdict.

  • Publicly verifiable evidence

Product documentation, published reviews and other public sources that anyone can look up.

How to read it: Evidence you can check for yourself.

  • Vendor submissions

Corrections, clarifications, supporting evidence or formal responses that vendors send through the form on this page. IRD reviews each one.

How to read it: The vendor's own statements, not independently verified. Where we use one, we may note or quote it as the vendor's statement.

  • SAI practitioner insights

The firsthand experience of administrators and practitioners in System Admin Insights.

How to read it: Qualitative and individual: one practitioner's experience, not a statistical finding. Where research draws on it, we label it as practitioner input.

Our independence

No kickbacks. No exceptions.

IRD accepts no referral commissions, incentives or kickbacks from vendors.

  • Vendors cannot buy favorable rankings, suppress unfavorable findings or pay to change our conclusions.
  • Our research exists to help buyers make informed decisions, not to steer them toward whichever vendor pays us.
  • Organizations can hire IRD for independent vendor-selection consulting. That work is paid for by the buyer and gives vendors no editorial control.
How we structure our vendor relationships

For vendors

Vendor responses

If your company is featured in our research, you can send us:

  • a factual correction
  • a clarification
  • supporting evidence
  • a disagreement or formal response

IRD reviews submissions independently. Sending one does not guarantee that we will accept it or publish it.

Vendor Ethical Inventory

A Living Vendor Research initiative in development: a two-dimensional landscape of HR technology vendors that looks at values in action, based on documented, observable evidence.

The methodology comes first. No vendor will be evaluated until it is developed.

Dimensions we are considering

  • Transparency
  • Customer treatment
  • Accountability
  • The gap between public commitments and actual conduct
